i was a fan of 'strangers in paradise' for a long time, but for various reasons stopped reading about 3 years ago. i really don't do a lot of comic buying at all anymore, but i stopped into a comic store recently and was poking around and saw a new paperback collection.
now then, like i said, i haven't really checked out the comic much in the last few years. i was wondering what everyone's opinion of what's been happening has been. maybe even a plot synopsis?
thanks.

Welcome aboard, Weeka! *gives him/her oreos and milk* It's been a long time since a fresh face has come here. I'm a couple issues behind, but all you really need to know NOW regarding SIP is two words:
Cherry Hammer.

And don't forget about Veronica. Three years, huh? Prolly your best bet is to invest in the trades to catch yourself up. In my opinion, the story is still going strong, with ups and downs that make it seem real. Fran and Kat aren't caught in a circle, they're in a spiral, and everytime you think they're in the same place they were at before, they're actually on a different level.
Oh, and Casey. Casey has definately gotten some major cool points in the last three years...

Didn't wnt to get anyone upset if they haven't read this far yet...
Right now, Francine has just left Katchoo to go back with Brad. Katchoo was upset but has decided to be mature for once and move on with her life. She's agreed to move in with Casey as a roommate (with benefits?).
Meanwhile, we have been introduced to Giffin Silver's new girlfriend, Nikki. She's a babe and I hope she sticks around for awhile.

Welcome to this house of fun.
Ever since Terry announced he was ending SiP near the end of 2001 the story has had it's been up and down for me. I don't he's up to the "I dream of you level", which was to me his most consistent good work, and hasn't been for a while. With the occasional exception of course. But it's still good fun and one of the better comics out there.

See? I told you we were being watched! I told you...
(It's out there Scully...)
For the record, I think you'd do best to hit a comic book shop and read up the last few graphic novels. Then, surrepticiously replace them in order to avoid spending oodles.
Now- on to the STP spoiliers

Veronica's dead- but someone's after Katchoo. Tambi recently got all hot and bothered with David, despite the fact that he's shacked up with his girlfriend in Japan & pining for Katina. Francine's preggers with Brad's (the perfect doctor son-in-law's) baby.
Brad's the brother of Griffin Silver- the rock star- who's now giving Francine relationship advice. Francine is miserable and pining for Katchoo- who has moved on with her life (unaware that she's being stalked by a dangerous element) and is hooked up with Cassie.
What happened to Cassie's boyfriend from Hawaii, we don't know.

Welcome to the board Weeka! I think the story is still worth following. But I border on being a fangirl when it comes to SIP. *shudder*
The plot is rather slow, like real life. But I love the characterizations and seeing different layers of characters. If you like human interaction, then it is still good. If you want it to *just move on already* it's probably not the best comic for you.
And usmu, Terry did *not* announce he was ending SIP. He was ending a arc of the story and it was misinterpreted. As far as I know he has not announced any plans to end SIP.

wow, y'all sure are a friendly bunch.
the pacing of the book is always what bothered me before. reading the collections was always the way to go for me, but the comic was just too slow for my tastes.
but then again, i am a member of the cable tv/nintendo/internet generation, so my attention span isn't what it could be.
i'll most likely check out the newest collection, just to get my feet wet again. trying to save up for a house right now, so i need to keep my expenses low.
